Other annual events
During the year Rutherglen hosts a number of special events including:
Tastes of Rutherglen on the Labour Day weekend in March
Winery Walkabout on the Queens Birthday weekend in June
There are many other local events such as :
Rowing Regatta (Australia's oldest) on Lake Moodemere in January
Warrabilla lunch presenting vertical wines with each course at the winery in September and a long lunch at Tastes Restaurant in town in November.
Pfeiffers hold their long lunch on their famous bridge to celebrate the release of Gamay in November.
There are many events involving riding the rail trail to some of the local wineries including:
Pink Pedal Party in mid November
The Rutherglen Tweed Ride in May
The annual Sculpture Trail competition in November
Tour de Rutherglen
At other times. bring your own or bicycles can be hired from the Information Centre. Cyclists can explore the Rutherglen wine region and arrange for bulky purchases to be delivered back to Carlyle House.
Others may prefer to ride the 9km sealed former rail trail that travels from the heart of the Rutherglen to the banks of the Murray and is a great way to explore the many famous wineries that have made this region a destination for food and wine lovers. See map [pdf].
